Fall Foliage 2013 part one

Unlike some of our camping friends who recently made a five month trip across the southern US, up through New England and into Canade, our trip is planned for five weeks.  We intend to leave New Mexico, travel to the Great Lakes region, then into New England for the fall foliage.  Our plan is to catch it at its peak and follow it southward to South Carolina before returning home.  Along the way we will attend an Owner's Rally for owners of the KZ brand of travel trailers and stop in to visit family in Washington DC and Spartanburg, SC.
We left home on a Sunday afternoon on what looks like a 4,000 mile trip. About 80 miles into the trip we sprang a leak in the heater core of our tow vehicle, and our first overnight stop, Amarillo, ended up being 3 nights while we had repairs made.
Oasis RV Resort is a good place to be if you are stuck in Amarillo while waiting for your truck to be repaired.  We also had other business to take care of there, so we put our time to good use.
We continued eastward to Tulsa, camped at Lake Keystone State Park, and took care of one more matter of business in Tulsa before turning north toward the Great Lakes.
