At the Rally

This was the first rally for KZ owners.  There were 14 rigs in all and 27 people.  I think we won the award for having traveled the furthest, although there was no prize, just recognition.  Our day began with an orientation and a factory tour.  Each of us got to chose which plant we wanted to tour; fifth wheel or  bumper pull trailers.

Starting with the frame, our guide walked us through each step of the manufacturing process.

These side walls start out as a long sheet of laminated fiberglass, styrofoam insulation and plywood. The window, door and storage compartment openings are then cut out before the wall is ever mounted on the floor and frame.

Once the walls are attached cabinets, fixtures and furniture are installed.

The roof goes on and then the slide outs (which are built in another part of the factory) are installed.

The final steps are adding the exterior graphics and installing the windows and doors.  Lastly, we step into several models just completed to see the finished products.  They turn out six trailers a day from this plant. There are two other plants working as well.

Following the tour the folks from KZ served us lunch at their headquarters building, then a Q&A session  ensued.  They answered a lot of our questions and then sought our input for future product features and improvements.

Afterward we visited at the campground while a crew from the factory came to the campground and addressed any maintenance, repair or warranty concerns we had.  That evening we all met for dinner at the Blue Gate Restaurant.  Amish cooking served home style.

We had to depart the next morning in order to continue on to New York and beyond.  Most of the other attendees stayed until Sunday.
